I dropped by to check out how the SMX Social Media Marketing conference was doing in Long Beach. It was a small group of about 150 people listening to Danny Sullivan and Rand Fishkin. Danny Sullivan is Editor-in-Chief, Search Engine Land and Rand Fishkin is Co-Founder and CEO, SEOmoz. They were talking about Social Media Marketing Essentials which included how customers interact with brands online. They were giving an overall view of Social Media Marketing (SMM) and how it fits into today’s marketing mix. The two-day SMX Social Media Marketing conference promises to introduce the world of social media, the leading sites, the functionality they provide, and best practices for interacting in these virtual places.
It is great that the topic Social Media Marketing has turned into a two-day conference. When I interviewed Rand Fishkin at the last Search Engine Strategies Conference in San Jose he told me that they had to fight just to add Social Media Marketing to the agenda. I attended that session and found it the best of the week. I also had a nice interview with Danny Sullivan, "Do you know the way to Search Engine Land?" at that conference and he talked about the future, which is now a reality.
